Recently Completed: Route 631 (Bells Hill Road)

Cost and schedule ►

In Stafford County, Route 631 (Bells Hills Road) is closed to through traffic between Virginia Belle Drive and Belle Vine Lane for a slope failure that has damaged the road’s travel lanes.

The road was closed to through traffic on Monday, June 4, 2018, after heavy rain damaged the road and adjacent slope.

VDOT has started the procurement process to repair the slope and road.

A project schedule, scope of work, and cost to repair Bells Hills Road is under development. VDOT staff have identified a contractor with specialized equipment to repair the slope. The contractor has completed several site visits to assist with their development of a proposed schedule, scope and cost. Once the proposed cost and project plan is approved, construction can begin, and a date to re-open the road can be announced.

Road closed barricades and detour signs have been posted to guide motorists.

Bells Hill Road remains open to motorists at both intersections with Route 1. Travelers seeking to access destinations south of Belle Vine Lane should use the southern intersection of Route 1 and Bells Hill Road to reach their destination.

Benefits

This project reopened the road to traffic following severe damage from heavy rain.
