What's Being Done
Work started in February 2007 to widen Birdneck Road from a two-lane to four-lane divided road at a cost of $27.9 million. Project components include grading, drainage improvements, asphalt paving, planting and signal and utility installations. Completion is scheduled for April 2011. The project extends 3.5 miles from General Booth to Southern Boulevard. Crews are currently laying infrastructure.
Benefits
This project expands the capacity of Birdneck Road to better accommodate traffic volumes.
Impact on Traffic
Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and occasionally on Saturdays. Motorists who normally use Birdneck Road to access the Oceanbreeze Amusement Park will find the General Booth entrance more convenient throughout the project. Throughout the construction, motorists can expect minimal delays with one lane in each direction open to traffic.
