About the Project
The current portion of Lynnhaven Parkway is primarily a two-lane road with a connection from Indian River Road to Centerville Turnpike. This project will complete that connection with the construction of a four-lane divided roadway. This is the final phase of the Lynnhaven Parkway corridor projects, which will make a connection from Volvo Parkway at Battlefield Boulevard to I-264 at the Lynnhaven Parkway interchange.
When complete, the project will include a bridge over Brigadoon Lake #2, an 8-foot shared use path, a sidewalk, sound walls and landscaping. New traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Monument Drive, Heald Way, Beaufain Boulevard and Albright Drive.
This project has been fully funded in the Governor’s Transportation Initiative.
During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions. Motorists should be alert to temporary flagging operations as needed throughout the duration of the project.
The contractor has all signalization complete on the project and plans to open the road from Indian River Road to Heald Way before the end of the year. All lanes will be open between Foxon and Heald Way including the bridge. The sign contractor is installing remaining street and roadway signage this week and will be 95 percent complete by mid-December. All major signs will be installed prior to the opening of the road. We will have some surface mix to complete, median and side streets on the eastbound side of the project from Foxon to Indian River Road where there will only be one lane of traffic each way until this work is completed in the next few weeks. Landscaping is 97 percent complete. The project is estimated to be complete in total by mid-January.
Due to construction, Brigadoon Neighborhood Park is closed. The park is expected to reopen to the public in fall 2016.
The project is scheduled for completion in early 2017.
A Community Information Meeting was held on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at Tallwood High School to give residents a brief presentation on the progress of the project:
As of September 29, 2016, Lynnhaven Parkway between Albright Drive and Dalrymple Street has reopened to traffic.
The closure had been in place since February to allow for reconstruction of this portion of Lynnhaven Parkway, as well as the installation of waterline, sanitary and storm sewers, sound walls, embankment, curbs, sidewalk and pavement.
Traffic can now access all side streets between Albright Drive and Sidney Circle via Lynnhaven Parkway. Residents living on the south side of Lynnhaven Parkway (Sidney Court, S. Angus Drive, Etheridge Circle, S. Dalrymple Street and Nelson Court) still need to use the crossover at the intersection of Dalrymple Street and Lynnhaven Parkway to access their streets.
Lynnhaven Parkway is estimated to remain closed past Sidney Circle until late December.
