About the Project:The widening of Military Highway in Norfolk is a three-phased project encompassing a mile and a half total roadway. Each phase is approximately a half mile long and each phase will be funded and awarded separately. The phases are as follows:
- Phase 1
The first project scheduled for construction includes the northern section of Military Highway around Interstate I-64 and Robin Hood Road. It will widen the existing four lanes of traffic to six lanes. The section of Robin Hood Road from the I-64 Robin Hood Road Exit Ramp to Military Highway will be widened to provide two lanes of traffic in both directions, along with an extended right turn lane from Robin Hood Road to access Military Highway south bound. The estimated advertising date for this project is May 2011. The estimated completion date is approximately May 2013.
- Phase 2
- Phase 3
The final phase includes the middle section of Military Highway from Broad Creek to the Norfolk Southern Railroad Track. This phase is currently un-funded and unscheduled.
This project will also provide curb and gutter, landscaping, sidewalk, drainage and lighting improvements for both the Military Highway and Robin Hood Road Corridors. Right-of-Way acquisition is currently underway for the second phase of the project.
