What is being done
Stop gates and related notification signals are being installed on each side of the James River Bridge for incident and emergency management. The construction consists of:- Installation of 2 stop gates on each side of the bridge, on the bridge approaches in Newport News and Isle of Wight County
- Communications for control room personnel
- Signals and supporting signs to notify motorists of a bridge closure
- A series of cameras to ensure the bridge can be safely closed
Traffic Impacts
Lane closures approaching the work areas on each side of the bridge will occur during non-peak, daytime hours.
There will be no construction on the bridge structure. All work will be on an abutment.
