What's Being Done
This project will widen Richmond Road (Route 60) from Bypass Road to just past Monticello Avenue in the City of Williamsburg. During construction, all curb, gutter and sidewalks will be replaced. The project will be constructed in two phases:Phase 1 - Replace stormwater drainage system and widen Richmond Road by 12 to 16 feet between Bypass Road and Monticello Avenue.
Phase 2 - Repave the stretch of road between Brooks Street and Monticello Avenue and install new curbing, gutter and sidewalks where existing sidewalks, curb and gutter are located.
Benefits
This project will improve traffic flow along this busy corridor by adding additional lanes and improving drainage. The road will be widened to as many as five lanes across in some areas (two lanes in each direction).
Impact on Traffic
Much of the construction on this project will need to be completed during the day to ensure that the roadway is complete by December 2006.Between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., segments of the road will often be reduced to one lane, requiring traffic heading in both directions to share a single lane of travel. Flaggers will help to alternate traffic during these time periods, but motorists should use alternate routes to avoid delays.
