LONG-TERM CLOSURE PLANNED ON ROUTE 635 FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will enact a long-term closure of Route 635 (Tucker Swamp Road) at the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad starting February 5, 2018 to replace the bridge. This project has a fixed completion date of May 1, 2019. VDOT awarded Curtis Contracting the $2.7 million contract in November 2017.
The construction site is located on Tucker Swamp Road between Route 460 (General Mahone Boulevard) and Route 622 (New Road) in Ivor. A signed detour will be in place as follows:
North to south:
From Tucker Swamp Road, turn onto General Mahone Boulevard and head west for 2.4 miles. Turn left onto Main Street and continue for 0.6 miles. Turn left onto New Road and continue for 3.5 miles. Turn left onto Tucker Swamp Road to access areas south of the construction site or turn right to continue on Tucker Swamp Road southbound. End detour.
South to north:
From Tucker Swamp Road southbound, turn right onto New Road. Continue on New Road for 3.5 miles and make a right onto Main Street. Continue on Main Street for 0.6 miles and turn right onto General Mahone Boulevard. Continue on General Mahone Boulevard east for 2.4 miles. Turn right to access Tucker Swamp Road north of the construction zone or turn left to continue on Tucker Swamp Road northbound. End detour.
