About the Project
This project is located on Stokes Road (Route 635) Bridge in Sussex County. The project is in a rural setting within Sussex County. The existing bridge is a single-span bridge built in 1932 and consists of a timber deck, steel beams, and timber abutments. It is 20-feet wide and accommodates one 9-foot wide lane in each direction.
The purpose of this project is to replace the existing Stokes Road (Route 635) Bridge over Magus Mill Pond, which is structurally deficient and has a posted weight limit of ten tons. The proposed bridge will be a 40-feet long, 24-feet wide, prestressed concrete voided slab span bridge with concrete abutments. The proposed bridge will accommodate two 9-feet wide lanes and two 2-feet wide shoulders.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin in spring 2017 and end in winter 2017. During the estimated nine months of construction, the roadway will be closed to traffic and a six mile temporary detour will be in place.
