These free, self-paced e-learning modules are from the Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Virtual University.

They are designed to teach you more about the new Chapter 527 land use regulations. Each takes take about 30 minutes to complete.

Land Use Module 1: Introduction to Land Use Chapter 527 Regulations

This module is designed for anyone interested in a global overview of the regulations and their implementation.

Before you begin, you may find it helpful to print out the course attachments. These documents will be referenced throughout the on-line course, and you may want to make some notes.

The purpose of this class is to identify the basics of Chapter 527 regulations and explain VDOT’s role in the implementation and on-going compliance of the regulation.

It is important to understand why the General Assembly passed the law that called for the regulations because it will help you better understand your role.

Land Use Module 2: Partnering in Land Use - VDOT, Localities, and Developers

This module is designed for anyone interested in the basic components of traffic impact analyses as they apply to Chapter 527.

The purpose is to clarify which land use proposals should be analyzed according to the Chapter 527 regulations.

It is important to understand why the components of traffic impact analyses are defined so that all parties have the same information when making land use decisions.

Land Use Module 3: Keeping Track of the Commonwealth’s Land Use

This module is designed for anyone interested in learning about the fees and deadlines associated with Chapter 527 land use submissions as well as the long-term retention of these submissions.

The purpose of this class is to introduce the ways land use submissions are recorded for your future reference and public access.
