Key Construction Company, Incorporated of Clarksville, VA, received the $18.9 million contract for construction of a four-lane 1.38-mile divided limited access highway beginning west of Route 293 and ending west of Route 360 and accompanying improvements. The project is commonly called the “Franklin Turnpike Extension.”
Approximately 1.16 miles of the project, beginning at the intersection with Route 29 Business Main Street, will be on new alignment and will include a 640-foot bridge over Falling Creek. In addition, the project includes new construction of portions of Norwood and Forestdale Drives, a cul-de-sac on Norwood Court; completion of ramps from a previously-constructed project and reconstruction of portions of both Route 29 Business and Route 41 with a street connection, King Street.
The entire project length is approximately 2 miles and will also include storm drainage, storm water management basin(s), and reconstruction of connections along the mainline, in-plan utility work, guardrail and roadway lighting requested by the City of Danville.
The project is slated for completion in December 2011.
