This project is for minor rehabilitation of the bridge on Route 29 Business (South Main Street) over Williams Creek, south of the town limits of Amherst. The primary purpose of the project is to construct a sidewalk on one side of the structure to eventually serve the high school and local businesses along Route 29 Business. In addition, preventative maintenance will be done and the bridge railing brought up to current standards.
The existing bridge was built in 1941 and reconstruction in 1973. The current project will include: milling, patching and resurfacing the bridge deck, removal and replacement of the existing rails and overhangs, and the addition of sidewalk.
Motorists will experience minor impacts although one lane of the structure may to restricted at a time.
The project has a fixed completion date of November 24, 2009.
