About the Project
In April 2007, VDOT
began construction on a 2.23-mile segment of Route 236, to improve traffic flow and ease congestion. The project runs through both the City and County of Fairfax.
The spot
improvements include new right- and left-turn lanes,
signalization, a drainage system, sidewalks and other improvements at various
intersections (
Project Background
In June, 1994 a corridor study for this section of Route 236 was begun to help identify possible improvements to enhance traffic flow and safety.Through the use of micro-simulation computer techniques, the congestion hot-spots of Route 236 were validated and quantified. A variety of possible improvements were simulated and analyzed to help identify the best fix.
