What's Being Done
VDOT opened the pedestrian bridge and fence over Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) on May 20, 2009. The bridge will provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists in the area, linking the Seven Corner's Shopping Center with the residential community of Willston, two blocks from the Fairfax and Arlington County boundary. The $5.2 million bridge is 141 feet long, with three-story stairwells at either end, and bicycle and wheel chair access ramps that stretch for nearly 300 feet on both sides of the bridge. Included in the project are trees and shrubbery at various locations on the site, flower beds at the landing of the ramps and an ornamental fence on both the east and westbound side of Route 50. A sidewalk was installed from Peyton Randolph Drive to the Willston Shopping Center.
