About the Project

This project includes improvements to Sycolin Road (Route 643) in Loudoun County. Two unpaved sections (about 1.3 miles) of the road will be reconstructed and paved:

  • Shreve Mill Road to the Gulick Mill Road (near the Dulles Greenway)
  • Gulick Mill Road to Goose Creek

This $2.5 million project also includes improving drainage, straightening curves, and adding four-foot paved shoulders.

The portion from Gulick Mill Road to Goose Creek will be substantially complete by Sept. 4, 2009, and the entire project is scheduled to be complete in December 2009.

Traffic Impacts

Note: As crews complete heavy grading and paving work, Sycolin Road will be closed to through traffic beginning June 22, 2009. It will  reopen on September 4, 2009, in time for the start of the Loudoun County school year.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes in the area such as the Dulles Greenway, Route 7 and Cochran Mill Road.

It is estimated that under 3,000 vehicles currently travel Sycolin Road per day. The road carried over 1,600 vehicles per day in 2004, and is projected to carry 10,000 vehicles per day by 2020.
