What's Being Done
Bailey Bridge Road (Rt. 654) in Chesterfield County is currently a two-lane road that accommodates 15,000 vehicles per day (based on a 2006 traffic study). Congestion typically occurs during peak travel periods. Traffic volume on Bailey Bridge Road is projected to increase to approximately 33,500 vehicles per day by 2032.The proposed project begins at Manchester High School and ends at the Claypoint Road intersection. The proposed improvements include:
- Widening the existing lanes by four feet on each side for bike access.
- Left and right turn lanes at intersections and school entrances to ease congestion in the thru lanes.
- A sidewalk between Manchester High School and Crenshaw Elementary School for pedestrian access.
- Replacement of the existing bridge over Swift Creek with a new bridge.
- Adjustments to the road to improve sight distance.
