Project Details
The project involved improvements to the I-295/I-64 interchange in western Henrico County, widening of Pouncey Tract Road and construction of a new flyover ramp from I-64 east to I-295 south.Click here to go to the I-295 Flyover project Web site.
I-295/I-64 interchange & flyover ramp:
- A lane was added to the outside of I-64 in both directions between Route 288 and Route 250 (Broad St. exit 178).
- The one-lane ramp from I-295 north to westbound I-64 (towards Charlottesville) was increased to two lanes.
- A new, two-lane flyover ramp carries 14,000 drivers from eastbound I-64 to I-295 south. The ramp is 1,765 feet long and 35 feet above I-64.
- Road work took place between Twin Hickory Lake Drive and the first signal north of Broad Street.
- The two lane bridge over I-64 was replaced with a new, four-lane bridge. The new bridge is 338 feet long with a raised median, sidewalks and aluminum railing on each side.
- Modifications were made to the first traffic signal north of Broad Street.
What was the purpose of this project?
The flyover bridge and additional lanes improves the flow of traffic on I-64 between I-295 and Route 288.
Soundwalls
Two soundwalls were built for this project. One along I-64 east, west of Pouncey Tract Road between I-64 and the Reflections at West Creek complex. The second sound wall was built between I-295 north towards I-64 and the Twin Hickory neighborhoods of Waters Edge, Cobblestone Landing and Parsons Walk. This sound wall does not extend westbound past the Pouncey Tract bridge.
