VDOT crews and contractors are working to restore the bridges on I-85 located over the CSX railroad at mile marker 28, near the Route 1 interchange to Alberta in Brunswick County. Work includes preventative maintenance and superstructure repairs.
During construction, a single lane will be closed both northbound and southbound continuously through the duration of the project. Currently the left lane southbound between mile markers 29 and 24 and the left lane northbound between mile markers 24 and 29 are closed.
Beginning Tuesday, February 28, the right lane southbound will be closed between mile markers 29 and 24 and the right lane northbound will be closed between mile markers 24 and 29.
Additionally, the ramp from Route 1 (Boydton Plank Rd.) south to I-85 south and the ramp from I-85 north to Route 1 (Exit 28) will remain closed.
Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route or the posted detours:
• Detour for closure of the Route 1 south ramp to I-85 south: From Route 1 south, drivers can continue on Route 1 south to Christanna Highway (Route 46) west back to I-85 south.
• Over height vehicle detour for closure of the Route 1 south ramp to I-85 south: From Route 1 south, drivers can take I-85 north to Exit 34 (Sturgeon Road) back to I-85 south.
• Detour for closure of I-85 north ramp (Exit 28) to Route 1: From I-85 north, drivers can take Exit 27 to Christanna Highway (Route 46) east back to Route 1.
