What's Being Done
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews have completed a project to replace the East Main Street (Route 5) bridge over the Norfolk Southern railroad in Richmond. The new superstructure replaced the existing structure originally built in the early 1900s.
While the project is complete, please note that the below detour remains in place for continuing work on the City of Richmond’s East Main Street/Relocated Dock Street Project. More information on this project is available here: http://www.richmondgov.com/PublicWorks/EastMainDockStreetProject.aspx.
Drivers can use the posted detour, approximately 1.2 miles in length:
- Take Williamsburg Avenue to Nicholson Street to E. Main Street (Route 5).
A citizen information meeting was held on December 10, 2015 at Chimborazo Elementary School. A fact sheet is available.
