The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has completed two safety improvement projects along the Cox Road (Route 226) corridor in Dinwiddie County. These improvements include modifications to the heavily traveled intersection with Boydton Plank Road (Route 1) and the construction of a single lane roundabout at Ferndale Road (Route 600).
The recently completed roundabout at Ferndale Road provides guidance to traffic by way of permanent concrete islands, new signs and pavement markings. Additional improvements at the intersection include new sidewalks, pedestrian crosswalks and an opportunity to enhance aesthetics in the community.
Route 1 intersection work widened the roadway to better accommodate turning movements for vehicular and cyclist traffic.
Drivers should use the following tips in the new traffic pattern:
- Follow signs and pavement markings for your safety.
- Slow down when approaching the roundabout.
- Yield to traffic already in the roundabout.
- As you enter the roundabout, keep right and drive in the counter-clockwise direction. Do not turn left when entering a roundabout.
- Do not change lanes or stop when in the roundabout.
