What's Being Done
The project involved widening and improvements to Route 30 from I-95 (Hanover County) to Route 652 (Caroline County) to accommodate motorists traveling to and from the new Virginia State Fairgrounds. From the start of the project, an additional 12 feet eastbound was added to the south side of Route 30 to the CSX railroad crossing. The south signal gate at this crossing was moved to accommodate this additional lane. Urban design with curb and gutter was used west of the railroad crossing. After crossing the railroad tracks, construction was divided into a four-lane divided highway on the south side of Route 30 that includes a 40 foot median. This design will accommodate traffic needs as well as improve safety along Route 30.
See VDOT's Fredericksburg District for more information.
