What's being done?
The purpose of the project is to replace the Route 61 bridge over the New River.
The new bridge will include two 12-foot travel lanes, a sidewalk and bicycle lanes.
The current bridge was built in 1952 and is in overall poor condition.
During construction, at least one lane of traffic will be maintained on the bridge. However, periodic, short-term bridge closures may be necessary during some phases of construction.
A citizen information meeting was held on Thursday, July 16. A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, November 5 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Narrows Community Center, 110 Mary Street, VA 24124.
