Project Details

This project will replace the existing bridge over the CSX Railroad with a new parallel structure located west of the current bridge. The project will begin just south of the existing bridge over CSX Railroad at Route 1002 in the community of Selma, which is located southwest of Clifton Forge. The project proceeds north across the CSX Railroad, for approximately 0.25 mile and ends just prior to the intersection with Route 60 and Route 220. Portions of Route 1002 will have new sidewalk and curb and gutter.

Benefits

This project will replace a structurally deficient bridge with a new structure. This will aid the community since this is a major corridor for logging trucks that transporting material to Covington. Drainage in the vicinity of the railroad yard will also be improved.

Structurally deficient means the condition of any part of the structure has reached a condition rating of 4, meaning “poor”. This designation does not mean that a structure is in danger of imminent failure, but that its condition has deteriorated to a point where it should be replaced, and/or it can no longer carry today’s heavier truck loads, and is therefore posted.
