Project Details

The project will replace the Crab Run bridge, located between Route 645 and Route 654 in the village of McDowell. The existing 24-foot wide, two-lane bridge will be replaced with a 47.7-foot wide, two-lane bridge. The wider new bridge will meet current design standards for wider shoulders. The wider shoulders and approaches will enhance driver safety in this area.

Construction of the new bridge will be on a slightly shifted alignment, allowing a staged construction process. During construction a single 15-foot traffic lane will be continuously maintained. Eight-foot wide shoulders will be on the roadway approaching the bridge site. Areas featuring guardrail will have 11-foot wide shoulders.

The average daily traffic volume in 2007 was 1267 vehicles per day. This number is anticipated to increase to 1810 vehicles per day by the year 2032.

There will be no families, businesses or non-profit organizations displaced as a result of this project.

The estimated cost for this project is approximately $2.5 million, which includes $420,062 for preliminary engineering, $114,235 for right-of-way acquisition and $1,934,294 for construction.

A citizen information meeting was held on March 24, 2009 and a public hearing was held on May 14, 2009.

What's Next

Design approval is estimated to occur in spring 2009. Right of way acquisition will be in mid-2009 with construction advertisement in late 2010.
