Project Details
The project will replace the Maury River bridge on Route 130. The improvements extend from the Route 501 to 0.38 mile west. The improved roadway will feature a 45 mile-per-hour design speed. The proposed improvements include the existing roadway to two 12-foot lanes with 10-foot graded shoulders. The construction of the approaches will be done in stages to accommodate connections to the existing roadway and three entrances located within the project limits. The bridge will have structural steel beams, a concrete deck and concrete railings. There will also be 10-foot graded shoulders with this project.
The existing bridge and approaches will be removed. The project will be finished with new asphalt paving and the installation of guardrail.
In 2005 the average traffic volume on the bridge was 4400 vehicles per day. This volume is anticipated to increase to 6400 vehicles per day by 2018.
Benefits
The bridge project will increase safety and improve the local transportation infrastructure by replacing the current bridge, which is structurally deficient, meaning it is posted to allow only lighter weight vehicles on it and it needs replacement.
Public Events
A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the bridge site on June 25, 2008.
