This project will replace the Mill Creek Bridge on Route 698 (Orchard Drive) near the town of Mount Jackson in Shenandoah County. The existing single-lane bridge was built in 1932 and is nearing the end of its service life. It is currently posted for vehicles not to exceed 16 tons.
The proposed new structure will have two 11-foot lanes with three-foot shoulders. It will be constructed in the same location as the current structure. Construction is currently scheduled for fall 2019 and should take approximately eight months
During construction the bridge will be closed to traffic.
In 2012 Route 698 had an average daily traffic count of 750 vehicles per day. By the design year of 2030 the estimated average daily traffic volume is 781 vehicles per day.
The total estimated cost for this project is $2,720,061, including $508,408 for preliminary engineering, $51,334 for right of way and $2,160,319 for construction.

Benefits of Project
The new bridge will be able to support modern traffic without weight restrictions. The two-lane design will make the bridge more functional for the community. Overall safety will increase with the construction of this new structure.
During construction the bridge will be closed to traffic. Motorists should also be alert for lane closures and flagging operations.
