Project Details:

This project is located on Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) in the community of Maurertown. The project is approximately 1400 feet long, extending from 100 feet south of the new Diamond Valley Subdivision entrance to 200 feet north of Route 654 (Zion Church Road). The purpose of this project is to mitigate drainage problems and provide a center turning lane through the community of Maurertown. Route 11 is a primary north-south route with a traffic count of 7700 vehicles per day.

Existing water and sewer lines will be relocated and upgraded to accommodate the placement of approximately 800 feet of a 12-foot by five-foot concrete box culvert. This new box culvert location is just south of Highview Drive to just north of Route 654. Existing culverts across Route 11 will be upgraded and connected to the new box culvert.

The existing Route 11 pavement will be widened three feet on each side to accommodate a new center turning lane through the business district of Maurertown. As the project nears completion a new pavement overlay will be done.

Route 654 will be realigned at the intersection of Route 11 and a new left-turn lane will be added on southbound Route 11 for Route 654.

The work will be conducted mostly on the shoulder area. It will be necessary to shift the traffic pattern to accommodate a clear safety work zone. Work zone and temporary lane closures will be managed with flagged traffic control.

Benefits:

This project will mitigate a history of drainage problems in the Maurertown community during high water events. It is designed to accommodate a 25-year flood. In addition, the new center turning lane will provide safer conditions for the traveling public.
