Project Details

This project is located on Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road), an unpaved one-lane road about 15 feet wide. The road serves several subdivisions, a campground, and through traffic between Route 643 (Howellsville Road) and Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road).

Route 603 runs through mountainous terrain and is parallel to a mountain stream. The existing roadway is too narrow for two-way traffic and suffers from severe erosion problems.

This is a reconstruction and paving project that will widen Route 603 to two 10-foot lanes with 3- to 5-foot shoulders. The project will run from the intersection of Route 647 to about 0.34 mile north of the intersection.

Currently the average daily traffic volume is 986 vehicles per day. The average traffic volume is anticipated to increase to 1270 vehicles per day by the year 2024.

What’s Next

Construction began in May 2014 and is expected to be complete in December 2014.

Benefits of Project

The improvements will provide a higher level of service and improve safety for this high traffic volume road.

During Construction

Portions of the roadway may need to be closed at various times to accommodate construction operations. Every attempt will be made to keep closure times to a minimum. Emergency access to individual properties will be maintained at all times.
