Estimated Impact of Revised Revenue Forecast

Since the last year’s six-year program was developed, the economy has dramatically slowed. Transportation revenue sources have been affected and estimates were reduced in the November 2007 and February 2008 revenue forecast updates of the Virginia Department of Taxation, which reflect the pending repeal of the abusive driver fees.

As the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) plans for the Fiscal Years 2009–14 Six-Year Improvement Program, we are anticipating reductions in the state formula allocations.

VDOT will work with the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) and local partners to address this challenge with a focus on completing projects already in the program before adding new projects. The impact on individual projects will be determined during the development of the Fiscal Years 2009–14 program.

The CTB will make decisions about the primary system projects. The localities must determine which secondary and urban highway system projects will be affected.

2009-14 Six-Year Improvement Program

The CTB's Six-Year Improvement Program will be posted on the VDOT Web site on Friday, June 13, 2008.

The final program posted on June 13 will be reviewed and voted on by the CTB during its June 19 meeting.

As we prepare to release the Fiscal Year 2009-14 program in its entirety, the commonwealth has compiled a list of those projects that were removed from the program or delayed due to a lack of available funding.

These lists also include any candidate projects that were discussed during last fall’s Six-Year Program public meetings, as these candidate projects were not added to the program.

These project lists were shared with localities in a letter from VDOT district administrators sent on June 11. For questions about individual district lists, please contact the district administrator in your area.
