Fredericksburg Safety Rest Area/Welcome Center

Location:
Interstate 95 South at mile marker 131
This safety rest area/welcome center reopened Oct. 10, 2007.
It's one of three facilities that will be completely reconstructed as part of a $20 million effort to update 14 safety rest areas and welcome centers.
The new I-95 South Fredericksburg Welcome Center has approximately 14,500 square feet, additional restrooms, and ground and parking improvements that will better serve travelers. It replaces a facility built in 1967.
The new handicap-accessible safety rest area/welcome center features more rest room facilities (including family friendly stalls) than the old facility, plus vending machines and tables.
Outside, visitors will find:
Additional car, truck and bus parking
- New landscaping
- Well-lit secure walking paths
- New picnic shelters and tables
The new facility was designed and constructed to meet the United States Green Building Council’s LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification. LEED™ construction practices minimize environmental impacts, feature conservation measures, promote recycling and provide an energy-efficient facility that will help the commonwealth save money and better serve travelers.
